This position is responsible for the timely submission of technical or professional medical claims to insurance companies.  Day to day functions of the Medical Biller will include, submitting medical claims to insurance companies such as Medicare and Medicaid. This position may be in physician offices, hospitals, nursing homes, or other healthcare facilities.

  • Acquire any necessary referrals and pre-authorizations that are needed for procedures.
  • Check eligibility and benefit verifications.
  • Review patient bills for accuracy and completeness, when needed- obtain any missing information in order to complete bill.
  • Prepare, review, and transmit claims using billing software.
  • Perform electronic and paper claim processing.
  • Check progress on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle timeframe.
  • Ensure each insurance payment is accurate and in compliance with contract discount.
  • Follow up with insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments.
  • Identify and bill secondary or tertiary insurances.
  • Review accounts for insurance and patient follow ups.
  • Research and appeal denied claims.
  • Answer all patient or insurance telephone inquiries pertaining to assigned accounts.
  • Set up patient payment plans and work collection accounts.
  • Update billing software with rate changes.
  • Updates cash spreadsheet and run collection reports.
  • Highs School Diploma with knowledge of business or Accounting processes.
  • Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Health Care Administration is Preferred.
  • Knowledge of HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer requirements and systems.
  • Proficient with computer systems, software, 10 key calculators.
  • Excellent communication abilities for phone contacts with insurance payers to resolve issue.
  • Customer service skills for interacting with patients and family members of diverse ages and backgrounds
  • Great team player.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures
  • Knowledge of medical terminology that coincide with medical claims.
