Overview:
 
This is the entry-level Machinist position working under direct supervision of the Machine Shop Supervisor to perform basic setups and operations to produce metal parts and assemblies on a production basis. 

Responsibilities:
  • Measures, marks, and scribes’ dimensions, reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes and grinders.
  • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
  • Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly, using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, pin gauges, calipers etc.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all the basic machine tools in order to perform machining operations.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Perform accurate job moves using company business system.
  • Responsible for understanding and supporting the quality policy and the appropriate elements of the quality management system for their areas of work, reduce, eliminate, and prevent quality deficiencies including escapes.
 
Requirements:
  • General knowledge – equivalent to a high school education.
  • Certificate in Machine Tool Technology, Manufacturing Machining Technology Program, or another similar program.
  • 0-3 years of progressive experience working with band saws, drill press, manual lathes, mills, grinders and cutters.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
  • Advanced math skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to read blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part.  
  • General computer knowledge using programs such as Shop Track.
